About

A forestry company that stands out

Bois d’oeuvre Cedrico has been established in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region since 1977. It is one of the major forestry companies in Québec. A powerful economic lever, our family business processes more than 210 million board feet per year. It also provides more than 200 direct jobs and economic spinoffs valued at several million dollars.

But our real driving force remains our team, comprised of men and women who form one large family. We all work together, in an atmosphere of trust and solidarity, to deliver quality lumber every day - and we’re proud of it!

A family business for 3 generations

The birth and growth of a business is very much like an obstacle course. We’ve overcome fire, environmental problems, a lack of raw materials, labour disputes, etc., but Gilles Bérubé's family business has coped with it brilliantly.

Bois d'oeuvre Cedrico still remains a local business, and is ultramodern, profitable and competitive in addition to operating its own transport company. In recent years, the third generation of the Bérubé family has even taken over the company’s reins. Here are some highlights from our history.

1977

Gilles Bérubé and Camilla Malenfant acquire a small cedar shingle factory in Price, in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Under the name of Cèdrico Inc., they begin the adventure of operating the largest sawmill in Eastern Québec.

1978-1981

Cedrico Inc. expands with the construction of a sawmill in Price equipped with a saw line.

1981-1983

In August, disaster strikes: a fire destroys all of Cèdrico Inc.’s facilities. In the fall of the same year, the shingle factory was rebuilt, and production resumed in February 1982. The sawmill opened in 1983.

1986-1992

Gilles Bérubé buys the Bois Lacroix sawmill in Causapscal, in the Matapédia Valley, which becomes Scierie Causap Inc. After major modifications to the production line and the purchase of specialized equipment, the new Scierie Causap Inc. shows excellent performance. In 1992, a kiln was constructed.

1987

Gilles Bérubé continues on and purchases Marcel Benoît's lumber sawmill in Sainte-Florence, also in the Matapédia Valley. Operating under the name of Bois Cépédia Inc., it undergoes major transformations, in particular with the addition of a sorting table and a debarking drum to sell wood unsuitable for sawing in the form of chips. Production lines are also modified to increase efficiency.

1994

A new sawmill and a kiln are built in Lac-au-Saumon, also in the Matapédia Valley. It bears the name of Usine Bois Saumon Inc. That same year, a kiln was built on the Price site, in La Mitis.

1996-1997

In March 1996, a sawmill operated by Les Produits Forestiers LMC Inc. is acquired in La Martre in Gaspésie. In 1997, with an investment of $4.5 million, the construction and start-up of a secondary processing mill began in Price.

2003-2012

In January 2003, Bois d'oeuvre Cedrico acquired Scierie Pékan Inc. of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts in Gaspésie. The forestry crisis leads to the closure of some mills and a global reorganization of the company. Thanks to sound management by the team in place, all business activities restarted in the fall of 2012. It was at this time that Gilles Bérubé and Camilla Malenfant passed the torch to their son Denis, who became president and CEO of the company.

2017

Cedrico celebrates its 40th anniversary with its employees and the community.

2018

On November 19, 2018, the company announced a $26 million investment in its Price and Causapscal mills, including the redevelopment of the planing division and the modernization of the sawing line. These strategic investments make it possible to increase the quality of optimization and improve production efficiency. They help to improve Cedrico's positioning in primary and secondary lumber processing, stimulating the regional economy, consolidating 550 direct and indirect jobs and providing employees with more attractive work on an annual basis.

2021

Cedrico unveils its new brand image and its new website, which highlight its expertise, its team, its sense of innovation and its deep care for the environment.
